Collaborations

The University of West Alabama Integrated Marketing Communications program, through its “Simulated Workplace” teaching, began working with Gaineswood in 2019.  Classes have created this web site, updated our logo, aided in advertising and other projects.  Gaineswood is very grateful for UWA’s contributions to sharing and preserving this historic site in Alabama.

Sartain Print

In 1860, Mobile photographer Chauncey Barnes took a photograph of Gaineswood. The photo was sent to John Sartain in Philadelphia the premier engraver on steel in America.  He created engraving plates from the photograph.  The image shows Gaineswood at its finest, its landscaped grounds, members of the Whitfield family and enslaved people.
